About the event

Foundations of Emotional Neglect: Understanding the Impact of Chronic Misattunement

Emotional neglect can be difficult to recognize because it is often defined not by what happened in childhood, but by what was missing—consistent emotional attunement, responsiveness, curiosity, and connection.

This two-hour live webinar offers an accessible introduction to emotional neglect, how it shapes development, and how its effects can continue into adulthood. It is designed for the general public and is open to anyone interested in better understanding emotional neglect—including people who have experienced it themselves, parents, teachers, caregivers, partners and loved ones, and anyone who has children in their lives.

Drawing from interpersonal and relational neuroscience, attachment research, childhood development, and my work as a trauma therapist, we will explore:

  • The basics of interpersonal neurobiology and how relationships shape the developing brain and nervous system

  • What emotional attunement is and why it matters for healthy development
